Dr. Knowles was born in Fort Hood, TX, and grew up in Tampa, FL. He moved to Tallahassee after his parents took jobs there. While in Tallahassee, he attended high school at Alfred B. Maclay, a college preparatory school. After graduation, he attended Florida State University and transferred to the University of Florida in his junior year, where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Zoology in 1986. He then attended the University of Florida College of Dentistry, earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree in 1990. In 1991, he completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (A.E.G.D.) Residency Program. He then worked as a Clinical Instructor in the Community Dentistry department of the University of Florida College of Dentistry.
Alejandra and his wife moved to Miami in 1992, where he practiced for seven years before moving to the Fort Pierce and Vero Beach area. While in Miami, he was an Assistant Professor in the Miami Dade Community College Dental Hygiene Program. In 2002, he purchased the dental practice of Dr. Richard Bancroft in Fort Pierce, where he practiced until 2017. He moved his practice to Vero Beach, where he now practices full-time. His son, Emilio, graduated from John Carroll Catholic High School, and now works for Pursuit Boats in Fort PierceFL. His daughter, Adriana, graduated from Fort Pierce Central High School and graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa with a BS in Health Science and is an LPN.
Dr. Knowles remains active in the community and enjoys family activities such as boating, wakeboarding, ATV riding, skateboarding, and shooting sporting clays. He also enjoyed playing bass guitar with local musicians and was a member of the 5-4s. Dr. Knowles is very interested in digital technology and its applications in dentistry and is an active member of the American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, Treasure Coast Dental Society, American Society of Dental Anesthesiology, Florida Society of Dental Anesthesiology, and the Florida Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He always strives to find better ways to produce better dentistry for his patients in the most relaxed, comfortable manner possible using the most modern, up-to-date materials.
